Mission 00 (Pre-mission)

The Cochrane was the fourth Intimidator class ship constructed by Starfleet. It was built at BravoFleet's Avalon Fleet Yards in late 2377. After testing it was towed to Sector 001 and docked at McKinley Station pending assignment.

It was decided that the Cochrane would be assigned to BravoFleet's Task Force 44 and given a fresh crew. Lt. Nadroj Neirbo, the Chief Engineer of the USS Aralius in BF TF38 was selected as Commanding Officer and promoted to Lieutenant Commander.

Neirbo came aboard and took command in late April, 2378. At that time the ship was commissioned during a brief ceremony on the bridge. Due to personnel shortages throughout the fleet, Neirbo was personally responsible for recruiting his crew, which at full compliment would be 1325 officers and crew.

Mission 01 "The Battle of Raeya"

Lt. Cmdr. Neirbo accomplished this task with great success, he had sufficient crew to conduct all operations by early June. He was promoted to Commander ordered to take up a mission in Task Group 3 of Task Force 44. En route to that assignment, the Cochrane received orders from RAdm. John Leschinski to proceed to Sector 349 to assist in the retaking of that sector, which had been captured by the C'hakilian Empire.

Upon arrival, Cmdr. Neirbo was given command of a group of two other ships, the USS Kingfisher and the USS Retriever. Due to staffing shortfalls on the Kingfisher, Cmdr. Neirbo assigned his Executive Offier Lt. David Jackson and his Security Chief Ens. Lachlan MacKenzie to the Kingfisher as acting Commanding Officer and acting Executive Officer respectively.

The objective of the Cochrane-led group was to distract C'hakilian ships who were guarding the portal to Raeya so that the rest of the fleet could enter and liberate the system. The mission was successful, however the Cochrane sustained heavy damage and lost two senior officers, Marine CO 1Lt. Zack Toyle and Operations Manager Ens. Marcus Newman. Additionally, Ens. Tevlek, Intelligence Liason, was injured severly and went into a long term coma. The Kingfisher and the Retriever stayed with the fleet as they moved to retake a Klingon outpost.

Mission 02 "The Klingon Kerfuffle"

In the meantime, the Cochrane did not have sufficient means to return to Federation space, as a result they docked at the nearby Klingon outpost, Ty'Gorok. En route to this station, Cmdr. Neirbo received word that he was being promoted to Captain and that the Cochrane would be reassigned to Task Group 2 to become the Task Group Executive Officer.

The Cochrane remained at Ty'Gorok for a month as it underwent repairs. LtJG Lachlan MacKenzie, the Security Chief, was killed in a barfight aboard the Klingon base, this nearly led to a diplomatic incident, but cooler heads and Klingon law prevailed.

Leaving Ty'Gorok, the Cochrane returned to Sector 001 where it docked at McKinley Station. While there, it replaced its fighters and interceptors which had been lost at the Battle of Raeya. As well, some crew transfers took place. Ens. Peter Stewart, Chief Conn Officer and Cad2 Deract G'Tor, Tactical Officer-in-training were reassigned while Ens. Maycen Toralon, Diplomat and Ens. Morrilus Corrus, Tactical Officer, came aboard. As well, RAdm. Christopher Pike, TF44 Executive Officer, informed Capt. Neirbo that there was no replacement available for Ens. Tevlek to head intelligence operations on the Cochrane. As a result, it was ordered that Lt. Cmdr. David Jackson, Executive Officer, be reassigned as Chief Intelligence Officer. Lt. Nyvaana Barnard, Chief Tactical Officer, would become XO.

Mission 03 "On the Other Side"

The Cochrane left McKinley and proceeded to a routine survey mission. En route to this mission it received a distress call from the civilian colony planet Tu'lear. Long range sensors indicated that there were a number of Orion Pirate ships in the system. It was decided that a small team would be sent in, under cloak, aboard the Beowulf interceptor, USS Pearson. The Pearson was sent, under the command of Lt. Jaell Rian, Chief Medical Officer. Also aboard were, Ens. Jartham, Operations Manager, 2Lt. Teka Rinchu Holtre, Cloaking Specialist, PO2 Karek Agdalar, Physicist and Sgt. Derick Slader, Marine First Sergeant.

The Pearson stopped sending telemetry as it entered Tu'lear orbit. Foul play on the part of the Orions was suspected. The Cochrane, went into the system at high warp and engaged the Orion fleet. With 11 ships, the Orions outgunned the Cochrane by about 2 to 1. The Cochrane was holding its own and doing better than one might expect but things were looking grim. Lt. Camerak, soon to become Cochrane Chief Tactical Officer and Cad4 Victor Dauragon, soon to become Cochrane acting Chief Conn Officer, organized some civilian ships on Tu'lear to launch for support. These ships were not well manned and it was decided that they could be used as a scare tool. The transponders of these ships were modified to indicate that they were Defiant class vessels. It worked and the Orions were scared off.

During the battle both Captain Neirbo and Lieutenant Barnard were injured. Neirbo seriously, and Barnard less so. Neirbo was beamed striaght to Sickbay. Barnard remained in command until after the battle at which time she left 2Lt. Corrus, the Fighter Leader in command. Corrus received a distress call from the USS Sakamoto and diverted to intercept. Upon arrivial, there was only one escape pod with 4 survivors, including future Cochrane Marine CO, 2Lt. Wai Kiat Chan.

Neirbo recovered and resumed command only to begin the repairs on the planet of Tu'lear and arrange help arrange a memorial services for those who died during the battle. The Tu'lear government was unhappy with the Cochrane and tried to drive them away. Kel Toralon convinced the governor to allow the Cochrane to remain until the lost crew could be recovered.

Karek and his mirror counterpart were successful in contacting Rian & Slader who had been taken aboard the ship commanded by the mirror version of Loj Hartson. With the hard work of Karek and the ability of Rian & Slader to imitate their notorius counterparts the crew was able to return safely save for cloaking specialist Teka Rinchu Holtre who was lost on the other side.

Intermission 1

After retrieving the crew from the mirror universe, Neirbo was given some good news, he was being promoted to Commodore and being given command of the new outpost, Xavier Fleet Yards, in the Bellatrix System.

With Neirbo, went most of his crew from the Cochrane. The Cochrane continued at Xavier as Neirbo's flagship being joined by the Nova-class USS Karlskrona and Raptor-class USS Singapura as the base's attached vessels.

Barnard, now promoted to Lieutenant Commander, who had never liked administration, liked it less on Xavier. As such, she was reassigned to oversee the massive Security Department. In the meantime, Maycen Toralon, the promising young diplomat who continued to impress Neirbo, was named as XO despite her inexperience.

Mission 04 "True Path"

XFY was in orbit of the planet Bellatrix IV, known as Trixia to its inhabitants. The Trixians are members of the Federation, having started originally of a colony, and are made up of various Federation species.

While attending a ceremonial function on the surface, Neirbo was captured by a radical group called True Path whose desire was to encourage Trixia to seperate from the Federation. Neirbo managed to mount an escape shortly thereafter and all seemed well, for the time being.

Neirbo, people slowly realized, was acting strangely. At the same time, two high ranking officers were killed, and chaos ruled the day. The only evidence was that the assailant had been a Bolian male. As a result, Security Chief Barnard rounded up all Bolian males, despite claims of racism by some.

When Droj relived Barnard for this and Kel questioned him on it, she too was relieved. He put them both up for charges of treason and left the base on a secret mission. By the time he returnd, the senior staff had realized he was not who he claimed to be. The imposter committed suicide rather than be captured, and when his plots were revealed, embarrassing True Path, the real Neirbo was returned, unharmed.

Mission 05 "The Plague of War"

Xavier gets word from Starfleet Intelligence that Yridian information traders are taking top secret data on Starfleet positions in the Cestus system to the Gorn. This is a very frieghtening prospect as the Gorn and Federation forces were then in conflict along the Cestus system. Admiral Neirbo launched the Intimidator-class USS Cochrane, which he personally commands, and orders the Raptor-class USS Singapura lauched under the command of Lieutenant Commander Jackson. The Cochrane's shuttles were unloaded, and its cargo bays converted so that extra fighters can be taken aboard and it launches in pursuit at high warp.

Shortly after the departure of the Cochrane et al, a vicious plague is discovered aboard Xavier. Dr. Rian eventually orders a quarantine and base personnel must deal with many angry visiting vessels who demand departure clearence.

The Xavier's ships arrive to find the Gorn freshly destroying the Yridian vessel. The Cochrane creates a subspace jamming field and they engage the Gorn. After a lengthy battle, all but two of the four Gorn vessels had been destroyed but the Cochrane and Singapura had both taken heavy damage and many fighters had been lost. One of the Gorn ships warped out and the Cochrane had to put chase to keep it in jamming range. A battle took place at high warp but the Cochrane's engines were failing. Finally, as they were about to lose warp speed, Neirbo ordered transphasic torpedoes fired. The Gorn ship was destroyed and Neirbo had himself relieved for violation of the Voyager Treaty.

Things did not improve. Upon returning to the site of the Singapura, it too had been victorious but was in shambles. Worse, another Gorn ship arrived on the scene. Eventually the Singapura had to be sacrificed on a collision run in order for them to survive.

Meanwhile, the plague on Xavier had, inexplicably, begun to dissipate. Upon the return of the Cochrane the quartine had been lifted as the last cases died down. Neirbo faced a court martial but instead brokered a deal which saw him resign from Starfleet. He left the base quietly but bigger things were brewing there. Dr. Rian suspected that the plague had been manufactured by the Trixian terrorist group True Path. She was, however, murdered with a stronger straing of the plague and her data erased.

Bravo Fleet Bat'leth Tournament

Xavier's new CO, Vice Admiral Valren Arelwynn and with him a new XO, Ty Kajiura arrived just as XFY was to host the Third Annual Bravo Fleet Bat'leth Tournament. The tournament went on without incident. Xavier's entry therein, Lt. Loj Hartson, was defeated in the second round however proving a dissapointment to the fans. In the midst of the heavy starship traffic the USS Shanghai, a mothballed, converted former Dominion ship, went missing.
